Actually NTP doesn't control the parsing of your /etc/resolv.conf --
it simply uses the RFC 2553 interface getaddrinfo() and it's up to
your system to decide how to resolve names (and it may not even
involve DNS -- some use NIS or LDAP via /etc/nsswitch.conf). I don't
know why you saw different behavior from ntpd than from other programs
on your system -- perhaps they were built differently (not by you)?
